Sushant Singh Rajput: Only in extreme darkness can we see a Soulful Star
– Martin Luther King Jr.
There are times when few people leave such everlasting footprints that it makes them immortal whilst leaving a deep impact on your soul. Sometimes a sudden thrust will make you step out of your cocooned shell, a shell in which you were breathing along with the beliefs you were conditioned with. It enables you to feel and realise that there is much more to life that you are currently experiencing. You start questioning and seeking answers to things you never thought, you would ask.
Such is the effect of losing a life like Sushant Singh Rajput (‘Hindi Film Industry’ Star also known as ‘Bollywood’). His sudden demise under mysterious circumstances has not only impacted people in India but also has sent shock waves across the globe. A super-talented individual with twinkling photon eyes, scholarly attitude, curious intelligent soul, with astronomical heart and an avid follower of quantum physics; these are a few adjectives which symbolised the persona of Sushant Singh Rajput. One of the most intelligent actors, Indian Entertainment Industry has seen in recent times whose life included much more than just films and making money.
The cause of his death is still being allegedly investigated but what is more disappointing is the silence of the Bollywood industry. His death has put a big question mark on the mindset of Bollywood fraternity, lack of empathy and compassion which are basic ingredients of being human. It appears that the Hindi film industry which once upon a time was ruled by great legends, known for its professionalism and passion for producing the maximum number of creative and family-oriented films every year has begun to lose its work ethics and value system completely.
It is sad to believe that it took Sushant Singh Rajput’s death to make people realise the difference between right and wrong and their choices/opinions about movies and so-called big film stars. People kept accepting cinema and television mediocrity as a source of entertainment for over a decade. Because any mediocre content which is packaged and marketed well, most of the time sells well. Most talented indie filmmakers, actors, directors, screenwriters and technicians are pushed to the sideline living a life of oblivion. Now people may ask who has the time to think, reflect upon and choose wisely? But it has become all imperative that the choice of spending hard-earned money only on quality entertainment and truly talented entertainers is exercised now since the value system is above any entertainment or star or industry or business.
Due to peoples’ movement, Sushant’s culprits should be behind the bars and justice shall prevail in due course of time. But the real question arises, is this the only thing that people want? Do his culprits are just those who literally killed him or is it an indication towards a deeper nexus? What about the Indian film fraternity which kept silent for the last one and a half month. Their so-called Virtue Signalling has been exposed. Bollywood people who only cared about topics (local or international) which seemed convenient or beneficial to them to improve their image are now sitting in deep silence.
Some Bollywood stars even either left social media sites or made them private because they were too afraid to confront people who questioned them about not raising their voice for Sushant and the related topic of movie mafia and nepotism. None of the mainstream Indian celebrities (except a few), so-called influencers or alleged role models (whom people have worshipped as God because people in India consider Bollywood and Cricket no less than a religion) have come forward to raise their voice for an urgent CBI Inquiry. Within a few minutes of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, it was concluded by Mumbai police and mainstream media channels that it is suicide even though no suicide note was found and no thorough investigation was conducted. Most mainstream media portals published suicide news theory, RIP messages and articles about his depression and mental health.
This reflects upon the irresponsible behaviour of both police and most of the mainstream media channels. Sushant’s news would also have been buried and forgotten under the same suicide theory as of late actors Jiah Khan and PR person Disha Salian had not millions of people raised their voice and expressed their initial apprehensions about it. This is one of a case where people have taken the responsibility onto themselves and have acted as mature self-investigating citizen journalists. They have started producing and posting all kind of evidence and content whether it is photographs, videos, motivational messages, forensic research etc. in the public domain on social media platforms to raise their voice and support every day in an effort to bring justice to their beloved star.
Due to this ongoing, unprecedented public support and anguish for last 2 months, Sushant’s death is now being looked at as a possible case of murder and now in the process of being transferred to CBI for complete investigation since 5th August 2020 till date. He is the only actor whose list of fans is increasing globally with each passing day. This worldwide unprecedented love and compassion have never been received by any deceased public figure. This is happening not just because he was a famous film star. More than a film star, he was a compassionate human being who not only cared for his family, friends and acquaintances but anyone who crossed his path or had been made aware to him. In 2018, Sushant Singh Rajput donated Rs 2.5 crore to Nagaland and Kerala combined, without any publicity gimmick, as revealed by the son of the governor, the Indian state of Assam. Besides the late actor also dreamt of teaching women self-defence, sending kids to study at NASA, among other of his bright ideas.
We are strongly in favour of a CBI Inquiry for Sushant Singh Rajput to give justice to his grieving family and friends along with millions of supporters across the globe who now have become his extended family. Besides the real tribute to Sushant Singh Rajput would be that billions of people who watch mediocre Cinema should avoid watching below-average content in film and television entertainment (only consider honest, innovative and quality content ignoring brand and PR hype) and concentrate on making their dreams a reality by following real-life heroes like Sushant.
In words of Sushant,
“We are light years away from the kind of innovations happening in world cinema. In spite of this, we still continue to celebrate mediocrity.”
– Sushant Singh Rajput
